Let “three-dom” ring.
That was the attitude today at the ӰPro Profiles plant in Millersburg, Pa. Following a three-day evaluation by a team from the federal government’s, Profiles was approved for the, becoming the third ӰPro facility to earn the VPP Star.
“This is five, six years of hard work coming to fruition,” said Jeff Paradise, ӰPro’s Eastern VP of Manufacturing/Extrusion. “This team deserved the star; they worked very hard for it.”
Profiles follows in the footsteps of ӰPro's Prescott Valley (Ariz.) and Gratz (Pa.), manufacturing facilities which were both awarded the VPP Star in 2017.
“We have two more yet (Hegins and Flower Mound), and we’re heading that way next,”
said Mike Troutman, ӰPro’s Director of Safety and Environmental Excellence. “The whole idea is to get the team engaged, get them energized, get them to understand that this is important.”
The VPP designation was established in 1982 as a way to encourage businesses to do their utmost in ensuring worker safety. OSHA maintains rigorous standards to reach VPP designation, which is why fewer than half of one-percent of all job sites in the country have been awarded the VPP Star.
“We don’t have many VPP Star sites in your industry,” said Terry Penn, OSHA Region III administrator and leader of the three-member team that conducted the audit at Profiles. “This is really impressive.”
Penn’s announcement Thursday means that her team’s recommendation will be sent to the Department of Labor in Washington for official review. Historically, once the on-site team makes its recommendation, this final step is just a formality.
